Q.How did the program prepare you and baby for the 1st submersions?
The program was unrushed with a gradual build up of skills
We had plenty of time to develop confidence in the teacher and methods
It helped me to develop my confidence as I didn’t want to transfer my fears to my baby
The program gave me a good understanding of aquatic reflexes and swim development
I could see my baby learning 1 step at a time and I loved the educational approach
Some parents didn’t elaborate quite as much saying we didn’t just dunk them under and hope for the best
Q.Would you have preferred the teacher to do the 1st submersion (96% percent said no)
We got to see other babies happily being submersed by their parents and this gave us great confidence and trust
We wanted to submerse our baby 1st rather than the teacher as our baby had a connection with our voice and cues and this helped us feel more in control of the situation
I felt very protective but connected to my babies needs and responses and wanted to do the submersion myself.
It was a huge trust and confidence thing between mum and bub when I successfully submersed my baby and that contributed to less over protectiveness even outside the pool

Q.1st Submersion experience?
Were you confident in reading the babies signs before submersing them?
Yes I had plenty of practice at home to develop good timing and the gradual build up of water helped me to become confident
Once I saw that my baby was responding to the cues and handling a full sheet of water over her face I new she would cope with the submersion.

Q.How did you feel before submersing your baby?
I thought about it all week but trusted all would be ok as I was well prepared. I felt nervous but excited at the same time
The teacher encouraged me to take 3 deep breaths and relax my hands
Q.Was your baby phased by the submersion?
100% were amazed @ how relaxed there babies were prior to submersion, during and upon surfacing.
Q.How many submersions did you do before you started to relax? The majority said 3 to 4.

Through gathering this information It was concluded that parents had time to work through any fears that they had and were happy with the gentle transitions taught at a slow pace and in effect things that take time will produce long lasting results. This impression could lead to the continual commitment and consistency to their childs swim development and education.

Now many of the parents that participated in this program have since had there 2nd baby and arrive at lessons with them very well prepared by following the same bath routine. Most of the babies were submersed at the 1st or second lesson.

This information forms the importance placed on the very 1st pool lesson
